Violet Crumble

The Red 5 de Diciembre network formed as an independent group on December 5, 2014 after that year's coffee leaf rust epidemic (known in Spanish as La Roya) cut Mexican coffee production almost in half. They are the largest organization of producers in the La Cañada region, representing 1300 small indigenous producers. In 2020, they achieved significant premiums for specialty and obtained organic certification. 90 Mazatec ethnic group farmers contributed to growing Violet Crumble, with 12-24 hours of fermentation and 7-11 days of drying on raised beds and patios. This coffee carries both a traditional aspect of chocolatey Mexican coffee alongside unique purple florals that pair perfectly. We'd describe this coffee as blending caramel, apples, figs, chocolate, and violet flowers with fairly high clarity and harmony.
